The Île du Levant lies off Lavandou on the South Coast of France. Since 1931, the part of the island which is not occupied by the military has been dedicated to naturism. Many enthusiasts have built their own dwellings on the steep sides of the island, and now there is a whole naturist village, Héliopolis, with hotels, restaurants, shops and bars all in a naturist environment.
We recommend either the very well appointed Héliotel at the top of the island just near the village square, which offers you bed, breakfast and evening meal, and has a wonderful pool and sun-trap courtyard. Or the Hotel Brise Marine, which has smaller rooms and is slightly cheaper, but has a wonderful high level pool with panoramic views from the sun terrace surrounding the pool. This is an adventurous holiday and is recommended for the more seasoned travellers and those who speak some French. But don't worry - Chalfont Holidays will make all the arrangements for you, and make the journey easy. (In booking flights Chalfont Holidays acts as a retail agent for various ATOL holders.)
The adventure begins on the Eurostar from Waterloo, and then on from Lille to Toulon by TGV. You could also go via Paris and break your journey there. From Toulon there is a bus journey to le Lavandou and probably an overnight stay in a hotel either there or in Toulon. Or you could fly to Toulon Hyere Airport from where it is a taxi journey to le Lavandou port. Then the boat crossing to Île du Levant where a little bus meets you and takes you to your accommodation. Now you can begin to enjoy a week or more on this car-free, sun-drenched, flower-strewn, naturist island.
