| Corsica's cultural heritage Corsica is a rich and varied island with a wonderful cultural and gastronomic heritage. The influences of France and Italy have been added to the Corsican tradition. A rugged mountainous interior, with fascinating hanging villages in the foothills, complement miles of silver sandy beaches, and a wealth of historic towns. The holiday season in Corsica is from early April to the end of October.

| The longest naturist beach in Europe Some 25 miles south of Bastia begins a 4 mile stretch of sand which is probably Europe's longest naturist beach. And on this beach are four naturist holiday centres for you to choose from, and several beach restaurants. The gently shelving beach offers safe swimming.

| Piana Verde
Just 20 miles south of Bastia airport you come to the first of Corsica's several naturist holiday centres, and we think this small centre is probably the best of all the choices for naturist accommodation in Corsica. These well designed and fully equipped modern self-catering apartments of various sizes but all with patios or balconies offer comfortable naturist accommodation of a high standard. The complex has a beautiful L-shaped swimming pool, with a pool-side bar. There are two tennis courts, and table tennis and volleyball. Sauna, massage and reflexology is available. All is set among delightful floral gardens. Piana Verde is set back 400 yards from the northern end of the 4 mile sandy naturist beach. This small naturist community offers a warm welcome. There is a restaurant nearby on the beach here but they would like you to wear at least a towel.

| Bagheera
Much larger and spread out under a forest of eucalyptus trees is Bagheera. These well designed and spacious holiday bungalows are spread out under the trees which extend down to the same sandy beach. A large and excellent (textile) restaurant is on site, and also a naturist snack bar on the beach. There are several games courts, a sauna, and massage too in high summer, but no swimming pool yet. We think this, along with Piana Verde, are the best choices for quality naturist accommodation.

| Corsica Natura A little further down this same long beach is Corsica Natura. Smaller and more simple holiday cabins in a variety of styles in a parkland setting are available on this friendly site, which has a restaurant and bar situated on a promontory next to the beach.
| Club Corsicana Right next door is another naturist facility, which is probably the cheapest of the options and is said to attract a young crowd. The apartments here are very small and simple, and takes the form of terraces of wedge shaped houses either side of a village street layout leading down to the sea. There are some larger bungalows suitable for families or groups. There is a restaurant and bar by the sea. There is a full programme of beach and water sports.

| Riva Bella
A bit further south, beyond the 4 mile beach, in a big estate of its own is Riva Bella. The accommodation here is in cabins situated in the trees looking out over the sea, on a wooded ridge between some lakes and the sea: the maquis. With so much water insects could be a problem, but all the cabins are well equipped with mosquito netting. Once again there is a beautiful sandy beach. There are two large restaurants, big shop, sauna, and well-being centre, with a wide range of health and beauty treatments.
| La Chiappa
Much further south, beyond Porto Vecchio, on its own little peninsular, is La Chiappa, situated on a beautiful sandy bay, with sun bathing lawns behind the beach. It has lots of facilities, a large swimming pool, and a very good restaurant. Accommodation is in individual pavilions offering only a small amount of living room, but each has its own verandah. If you don't mind the small accommodation, La Chiappa would be an excellent choice.

The journey to Corsica The most convenient way to get to any of these naturist centres is to fly directly to Bastia and hire a car there. However there are only a limited number of direct flights. But there are lots of flights to Nice, many with the new no-frills air lines which sometimes offer excellent value, and from Nice there are frequent scheduled flights to Bastia. There are also more direct flights to Calvi, but arriving at this airport will mean you have a long drive through the mountains to get to the opposite coast. For the adventurous it is possible to go to Nice by train on the Eurostar and TGV, and from there take a boat or plane to Corsica. You may like to spend a day or two in Nice, capital of the French Rivierra on the way. And if you go by train you could spend a day in Paris en route too.
